My youngest has become obsessed with this book about Amelia Earhart. We’ve read it every night for the last two plus weeks. She gleefully points to the pictures and exclaims, “Plane! That’s a plane!”
Yesterday she went to Target with Mommy, and when Mom showed her the airplane pj’s, she wrapped her arms around them and wouldn’t let them go.

Sooo, I’m curious about how the book deals with the disappearance, if at all.

Sounds like a trip to Oshkosh is in order next summer!

It doesn’t in the main text. The last page has a timeline of her life/career. The last entry is “Disappeared over the Pacific”

I wish there was a smaller air show around to try first. I miss Glenview Naval Airbase.

I bought that book for my son, who is now 15, and we still have it. Rudolf von Flugel FTW!

I’m not sure where you are, but here’s the best list on the Net.

There’s this one, too. What I like so much about Richard Scarry’s books is that the aircraft and cars and trucks etc. are all based on actual vehicles that you can identify.

Haha - I grew up close enough to Glenview NAS that I remember the noise, although Palwaukee was closer.
Oshkosh is much much more than airshows, but yeah it’s a 3.5 hour drive and I always stay in hotels an hour away or do a day trip.
But there are a lot of static displays, hands on activities for kids (simulator, RC aircraft, construction skills etc) so it’s a great place for kids. It’s worth the drive if your kids have interest.

Richard Scary’s book of cars was my childhood favorite.

I grew up in Deerfield, just west of Waukegan Rd, so we were directly under the flight path in and out of Glenview. I loved watching the cool machinery fly overhead. I kind of lost interest in planes after the base closed. I still think they’re cool, but I’m not “in to” it. I think it’s cool that she’s into it though, so I’m definitely going to encourage that.

Cars and Trucks and Things That Go. A classic. Did you find Goldbug?
